This is the teaching material for a DH2024 pre-conference workshop on the socio-epistemic networks (SEN) framework for studying the evolution of knowledge over time. It walks through automating data extraction from historical sources, exploring language-based change in historical documents with text embeddings and divergence measures, and using modeling and simulation to think about the biases embedded in archives — as well as the ones introduced by data collection itself.
